Where We Hunt:

How We Hunt:

We hunt from ground blinds and elevated tree stands.  We have several ground-level shooting houses ranging from factory-made fully enclosed models to temporary blinds.  We also have several elevated tripod stands in strategic locations.

Our stands and blinds overlook crop fields, food plots, powerline cuts, logging roads, and travel/funnel areas.  Trails to and from stands are clearly marked with tape and reflectors.  Of course, hunters are welcome to bring climbing stands and will be allowed to move freely within their assigned area.

Transportation and Guides:

During deer season, we have several  guides available to transport hunters to and from their hunting areas and to advise hunters on game movements and potential hunting areas.  Most of the area is accessible by vehicle and we can accommodate almost any need from hunters who wish to be driven directly to their stand to those who like to roam the remote areas.  The guides are also available to assist in recovery of harvested game.

Typical Hunt:

Coffee, juice, and doughnuts are available for the 4:30 am wakeup (don't worry -- we WILL wake you) before the guides transport everyone to their stands.  Your guide will return you to the lodge between 9:00 and 10:00 am for a hearty, buffet breakfast of homemade biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, gravy, and of course, grits (this is the South, you know).

Hunters will return to the woods around 1:00 pm and will be picked up again at dark.  An all-you-can-eat buffet extravaganza of country cooking will be served at 6:00 pm.  It is our policy that no one goes to bed hungry at PRV Lodge.

What to Bring:

Temperatures during deer season range from below freezing to 80 degrees and can change overnight.  It is a good idea to bring both cold and warm weather hunting gear along with rain gear.

Any good deer caliber will do.  We can assist you with sighting-in upon arrival.  We have open-field opportunities for 200 to 300 yard shots if you are so equipped, but most shots in the timber will be less than 100 yards.

We provide bed linens and towels.  Hunters should bring their own personal toiletry items.  We stock some basic personal items in our gift shop along with hunting necessities such as batteries and film.

And of course, bring the usual compliment of knives, flashlights,  ammo, binoculars, deer calls and lures.

What to Expect:

Hunting at PRV Lodge is strictly fair-chase.  There are no fences or enclosures.  We do not hunt with dogs.

Our forest areas are hardwoods, primarily oak and hickory.  There are cedar thickets on the mountainside, but no large pine stands.  There are harvested crop fields in the river bottoms and we maintain several green-field plots where the terrain permits.  In most years there is an ample supply of acorns in the timber to sustain the deer and this lessens their dependence on crops and food plots.  That is why our most productive hunting is in the wooded areas.

The mountainsides range from open stands of big timber to areas that have been selectively harvested.  We have no clear-cut areas.  Some areas are rugged and rocky.  The deer live in all of these areas.  If you will follow the guide's recommendations and can sit still and quiet, you will see deer.

As the photos attest, we have several nice deer taken each year and many more are seen but not taken.  If antlers are not a priority, our hunters have excellent success during the antlerless hunts.

We have a walk-in cooler on site for your harvest.

Deer processing is available locally for an additional fee.
